True North Basecamp is thrilled to connect directly to the beautiful, paved Cuyuna Lakes State Trail! This gem winds through scenic landscapes, allowing bikers, hikers, and outdoor lovers to explore the heart of Cuyuna Country year-round. The trail spans 9 miles, linking Riverton, Ironton, Crosby, and Deerwood, with a connector to Cuyuna and serving as a primary path through the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area and the area's renowned mountain bike trails.
This invaluable trail wouldn't be here without the dedication of the Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association. Since its formation in 2001, this nonprofit, volunteer-run group has advocated for bringing a state-designated trail to the Cuyuna Lakes region. Their efforts led to the legislative approval that officially established the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail, and their ongoing work has allowed the trail to grow and flourish, serving communities and visitors alike.
The Association remains committed to the trail's master plan, which includes an exciting vision to expand the trail to Brainerd/Baxter and Aitkin, creating over 30 miles of connected trailway. They work tirelessly to increase public awareness, maintain and grow the trail, coordinate with stakeholders, and advocate for funding and resources to support continued growth.
Visit the Cuyuna Lakes Trail Association's website to learn more about the essential work sustaining this beloved trail. We’re grateful for their efforts connecting us all to Minnesota’s natural beauty right from our doorstep at True North Basecamp.
