Cool Cuyuna Day Trips

The Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area is the epicenter of year-round outdoor adventures. Its 5,000 acres of pristine landscape offers breath taking views of mine lakes, wildlife, hiking trails and the world famous Cuyuna Lakes Mountain Bike trails. It’s so amazing this gem is only two hours from the Minneapolis and St. Paul metro area.

The CTMZ offers many day-trips from your cabin rental at True North Basecamp, Crosby, MN.  Here’s a couple of our favorites:

The Selfie Trifecta

It’s 100% certain there is nowhere in the world where you can take selfies with a larger than life white tail deer, a serpent and walleye besides Cuyuna.  The big walleye is 18 miles from True North Basecamp in Garrison, MN on Mille Lacs Lake.  It’s said it took three days for Paul Bunyan to catch this fish.

Kahnah’ bek, the 20 foot high and 25 foot long serpent, is in the Crosby Memorial Park on Serpent Lake, Crosby, MN.  The big whitetail deer is a short 4 mile drive to Deerwood, MN.  Besides seeing these wondrous statues, the area near by offer interesting museums and local cafes and restaurants and shops.  Please post your photos and tag them #truenorthbasecamp.

Snow Tubing

Snow tubing 22 miles from

Primetime Restaurant, Breezy Point, MN was originally a ski chalet in the 1960’s. Now it’s a great place for a day and evening of family fun.  Kids and adults will have an awesome  snow tubing adventure.  It offers pull ropes that helps you optimize the number of times down the hill.  It usually opens mid-December and best of all it’s only 22 miles from True North Basecamp.
